Décor is how I make a house, a home.

Finding décor that fits me, my family and our home is one of my favorite things to do. I love to decorate our home in a way that reflects what we love and who we are.  I love a good antique or thrift store; and always find things that fit me and my style that I would never find in a department store.

Antique mason jars filled with nick knacks.

I have so many antique textiles and I did not have a good way to display them. I found these antique jars at Canton First Monday and knew right away they were perfect.  You can group them or pop them in amongst other things to give a pop of antique or a different texture. I also like how I can swap things in and out of the jars to match whatever I am trying to do.

Decor scene

In our previous home, I had this wall right inside the front door that could not hold furniture except for this skinny cabinet.  I LOVE being able to create a scene of sorts using the wall space above furniture. I think it makes it more interesting and lets you use a piece you may have not had a spot for before. I  redid the shelf fairly often and loved being able to do a refresh without completel

Lighting

Built-Ins

Built-Ins

I have had recessed lights and I hated it... they created lots of shadows and I always felt like the lighting was dim. I like being able to move lamps around to work with décor. I missed having a fan to help circulate air and the ease of changing light bulbs.

We have a built-in for the first time and let me tell you, I am a fan. It makes arranging furniture easier with a built-in focal point, and it is one less piece of furniture you have to buy. Our built-in in the living room is where our TV sits and it also gives some storage space.

Rearranging

Candles vs Plug- Ins

Candles vs Plug- Ins

I rearrange furniture at least once a year in common areas like a den or living room just to give the room a refresh and a deep clean.  It gives me a way to refresh my shelves or add something I have picked up but didn't necessarily have a spot for yet. It is also a good way to adjust for the different seasons.

Candles vs Plug- Ins

As a mom of boys I am always looking for ways to keep my house smelling good. I love a good candle but they are not a practical option in every room of the house. I like candles in my room, plug- ins in the bathrooms and Scentsy warmers with the covers in the living room.  I also really like the small space smell goods for bathrooms and where ever needs a smell good boost.
